Concrete inspection

See more. Understand more. Act in time.

During their service life, concrete structures are subjected to severe stresses from loads, moisture, chlorides, temperature fluctuations, chemical exposure, and other external factors. Damage such as cracking, corrosion, delamination, and material degradation can develop long before they become visible on the surface.

Inspekt offers comprehensive inspection, testing, and condition assessment of concrete structures. By combining traditional inspection methods with advanced non-destructive testing, digital data collection, drones, ROVs, crawlers, and 3D scanning, we can create a detailed picture of the structure's actual condition.

We help our customers go from data to decisions – with clear assessments, documentation, and action plans for continued operation, maintenance, or repair.

Our concrete services

Condition Assessments & Action Plans

A qualified condition assessment provides the basis for making the right decisions regarding the future of a structure.

Inspekt conducts systematic investigations where we combine visual inspection, testing, measurement data, and documentation to assess the current status of the structure.

The results can form the basis for:

  • remaining life assessment
  • prioritization of maintenance measures
  • remediation strategies
  • investment decision
  • follow-up control program
  • planning for continued safe operation

We can also develop action plans and recommendations based on the inspection results.

Non-destructive testing – NDT of concrete

Through non-destructive testing, we can examine concrete structures without making extensive interventions in the structure.

Inspekt uses several complementary technologies depending on the construction, material, accessibility, and the information requested.

Ultrasound

With advanced ultrasound technology, we can examine the internal structure of the concrete and identify, for example:

  • delamination
  • cavity
  • cracks
  • variations in the material
  • the geometry of the construction
  • thickness
  • Post-tensioning
  • underlying structures

Through our connection to ELOP Technology AS, which develops advanced ultrasonic scanners for concrete, we have access to modern technology for efficient data collection and visualization of concrete structures.

Measurement data can be visualized to provide a significantly better understanding of what is happening inside the structure – not just on the surface.

Ground Penetrating Radar – GPR / markradar

GPR is a fast and efficient method for mapping concrete and other materials.

The technology can be used, among other things, to locate:

  • reinforcement
  • cables
  • pipe
  • tension cables
  • embedded objects
  • variations in construction
  • the structure of the construction

GPR can be used both for the investigation of concrete structures and in geotechnical investigations and soil mapping.

By combining GPR with ultrasound and other methods, we get a significantly better basis for decision-making than with a single technique.

Destructive testing & drill core samples

When further verification is required, we supplement the non-destructive testing with targeted sampling.

Among other things, we can perform or coordinate:

  • drill cores
  • material testing
  • compressive strength
  • carbonation depth
  • chloride analysis
  • laboratory analysis
  • verification of NDT results

By using NDT to identify relevant areas, sampling can be targeted where it provides the greatest value while minimizing unnecessary interventions in the structure.

Bridges, quays & tunnels. Inspection of complex infrastructure

Bridges, piers, tunnels, and other large concrete structures present special challenges when it comes to access, documentation, and inspection.

Inspekt combines specialist expertise in concrete with several different methods for access and data collection.

We can inspect:

  • brobanor
  • underside of bridges
  • bridge piers and foundations
  • quay structures
  • Tunnels
  • retaining walls
  • marine concrete structures
  • structures in and around the splash zone

Depending on the construction, we use traditional inspection, Rope Access, drone, ROV or crawler-based systems.

Inspection above and below water

A cohesive image of the entire construction

On marine structures, there is often a critical transition between areas above water, the splash zone, and the structure underwater.

Inspekt works with concepts where multiple technologies are combined to document the entire construction.

For example, a bridge or quay can be investigated by:

Drone
Documents hard-to-reach areas above water and creates high-resolution image data.

Rope Access – IRATA
Provides our inspectors with physical access to areas where traditional lifts or scaffolding are difficult or costly to use.

Crawler
Can be used for systematic inspection and scanning of vertical or hard-to-reach surfaces.

ROV
Enables visual and instrumented inspection of foundations, pillars, and other underwater structures.

By combining these techniques, large parts of the structure can be documented within the same inspection project.

Inspection of concrete and steel – in the same project

Many infrastructure facilities consist of a combination of concrete and steel structures.

Inspekt has expertise in both areas and can therefore offer an integrated inspection solution.

Our services include, among other things:

  • inspection of concrete structures
  • steel structure inspection
  • EN 1090
  • welding inspection
  • UT, MT, PT, VT, and other NDT methods
  • corrosion assessment
  • thickness measurement
  • inspection of fasteners and connections

This means that the customer can combine multiple disciplines and inspection methods with a supplier.

Project Support & Project Management

Inspekt can act as a specialist in a single part of a project – or take on greater responsibility for the entire inspection assignment.

We offer, among other things:

  • planning of the inspection program
  • selection of test methods
  • project management
  • coordination of specialist resources
  • inspection and testing
  • analysis of results
  • documentation
  • Condition assessment
  • recommendations and action plans

One contact. Multiple technicians. A single, comprehensive decision-making basis.

An all-inclusive concept for advanced inspection

From the surface to the interior of the structure – above and below water

Inspection of complex structures rarely requires just one method.

Inspekt's strength lies in combining specialist competence, advanced testing, and modern inspection technology.

For example, in the case of a bridge, an assignment may include:

1. Digital mapping
Drones and 3D scanning document the construction and create a digital foundation.

2. Visual inspection
Identification and classification of visible damage.

3. NDT of the concrete
Ultrasound and GPR are used to investigate the structure in depth.

4. Targeted sampling
Core samples are taken where previous investigations show that further verification is needed.

5. Splash zone and underwater inspection
Crawlers and ROVs are used to document pillars and foundations where traditional access is difficult.

6. Analysis and 3D visualization
The results are compiled and can be positioned in a digital model of the structure.

7. Condition assessment and action plan
The customer receives a clear basis for maintenance, repair, continued operation, and future inspections.

From inspection to decision

Inspekt helps you understand the actual condition of the structure – and what needs to be done next.
